HOME teams that fail to honour their encounters will face harsh punishments if the amendments proposed by National Football League Committee (NFLC) become laws next season.

NFLC secretary John Matovu disclosed the committee’s new position to the weekly Top Radio Super League press conference at FUFA House, Mengo yesterday.
“We want a team that fails to honour their home match to lose six points and also be fined sh1m because there is totally no extra cost in playing a home encounter,” said Matovu.

The amendment follows Express FC’s’ controversial failure to honour a home encounter against Mityana UTODA in the just concluded season, which led to the relegation of Top TV FC.

After the Iganga-Top TV case, where the former is accusing the latter of registering non released players, Matovu wants all clubs that have released players to send copies of their release letters to NFLC before the closure of transfers or else, such releases will be null and void.
“Players should register with a release or ITC and if they have no club, they will then be asked to swear an affidavit so that they can face the consequences if challenges arose,” said Matovu.

Matovu said that they also want the business of clubs not accepting appointed referees stopped saying in a strong tone that “No party or club at any level — super or lower division — should refuse a referee”.
