Journalists covering information and communication technology (ICT) have been advised to increase and professionalise coverage of the subject in order to win awards in the Uganda ICT Journalism Awards.

The awards were launched last Friday by the Managing Director of the International Insitute of Communication for Development (IICD) Mr. Jac Stienen.

He was in the country for an annual general meeting of the advisory board IICD.

Stienen said he was proud to be associated with the awards, noting that they were in line with IICD’s concept of rewarding writers of ICT news stories.

The awards are being organised by I-Network Uganda’s Media-Node and will see the best-performing journalists in print, broadcast, web and photography, winning prizes in cash and in kind. The awards are also aimed at boosting the rural understanding of ICT.
