CECAFA President Denis Obua has said Ethiopia will host the best ever Senior Challenge Cup tournament after getting funding from millionaire Mohammed Amu.

Obua returned last week from a four-day tour of the facilities in Addis Ababa.

“This one is not only as well-prepared as can be, but could even be better because Amu has given all concern to ensure that the tournament succeeds,” said Obua.

Amu will sponsor the tournament to be played in Addis Ababa from December 11, to a tune of $0.5m.

CECAFA general secretary Nicholas Musonye earlier revealed that most of the money would be used to buy air tickets for the teams, and as prize awards.

Cranes are currently training under Egyptian tactician Mohammed Abbas, who has decided on his 17 man team for the CECAFA tournament.

Not on it is Hassan Mubiru who has rejected calls to come to camp.
“It is his own decision and I do not think he will ever receive a call from me again,” said Cranes coach Abbas.

*One centre referee and assistant from Uganda have been appointed to officiate at the Challenge Cup.

FIFA referee Mohammed Segonga will join eight other referees named in Nairobi on Friday by the CECAFA referees committee.

Kitti Yahaya was named an assistant referee to the event.

All referees will have a Cooper Test a day before kick-off.

CECAFA general secretary Nicholas Musonye announced that all referees and assistant referees should be in Addis Ababa by December 8, where they will also undergo a medical test and attend a seminar on new developments in the laws of the game.

The tournament kicks off December 11, though Uganda, in group B with Kenya, Sudan and Somalia, start their title defence the next day. All matches are in Addis Ababa.

The final will be played on Christmas Day.
