Relations between Uganda and Rwanda remain stable despite the expulsions of envoys, information state minister Dr. Nsaba Buturo has said.

Uganda expelled a Rwandan diplomat in Kampala, Jimmy Uwuizeye, in connection with the People’s Redemption Army rebel group. Rwanda also expelled Uganda’s Second Secretary in Kigali, John Cliff Birungi last week.

Buturo yesterday downplayed the expulsions as a small matter that would not derail the countries’ relationship. He said the matter would be sorted out diplomatically.

Defence state minister Ruth Nankabirwa said the issue was minor and there was no threat of war.

She cautioned the press against alarming the public on the issue.

“It is minor but sensitive. The more you blow it, the more you make Ugandans uncertain,” she said.
Nankabirwa said Uganda had security problems with the DR Congo but not with Rwanda.
