About 300 Movement cadres in Bukonzo West constituency in Kasese district staged a demonstration in Bwera town, protesting the installation of Charles Wesley Mumbere as the king of the Bakonzo and Bamba.

The cadres, led by the area MP Dr. Crispus Kiyonga’s political aide, Elly Mwatsi, marched for over 10km from Bwera Primary Teachers college through the main streets of Bwera town up to Mpondwe border town.

Kiyonga is the National Political Commissar.

some of the demonstrators’ placards read, “The Bakonzo have never had a king. We fought for a separate district not a kingdom. Say no to Obusinga.”

Addressing the demonstrators at Mpondwe primary school on Saturday, Mwatsi said Kiyonga telephoned to thank them “for holding a peaceful and lawful demonstration.”

Mwatsi said the demonstration was aimed at expressing the anti-obusinga (king) sentiments among the people.

Mumbere is expected to arrive in the country from the United States, where he has been studying on a government scholarship, on December 25, the secretary to the organising committee, Noah Nzaghale, said on Sunday.
