A MULTIBILLION oil plant, Muddu Oil Refineries Ltd, will start in Mukono this month.

According to the manager, Mukund Matekaz, the plant is expected to cost $5m (sh8.6b).

Matekaz said the firm would use 135 kilolitres of water to produce 50 metric tonnes of cooking oil every day.

“We will produce about 50 metric tonnes of oil using 135 kilolitres of water for the first three weeks,” he said during a tour of the plant at Kyungu by district officials recently.

Matekaz said sunflower production in the district was too low to kick start the refinery.

He urged farmers to grow more sun flower, ground nuts and sim sim.
