Twenty machine-guns were recovered from Karimojong warriors on Friday in the ongoing peaceful disarmament exercise in Karamoja region, the army has said.

The Third division army spokesperson, 2nd Lt. Ronald Kakurungu, said thousands of guns had been recovered from the warriors since the exercise began.

He, however, said some warriors were against the disarmament, adding that the army would use force to remove the guns from them.

“We shall not sit back and watch as the warriors terrorise the neighbouring districts of Teso, Lango and Acholi to rustle animals.

We shall continue to pursue the defiant warriors,” Kakurungu added.

He urged local leaders to sensitise the warriors to hand over their guns to the army.

Kakurungu said warriors killed two people and looted 15 sheep in Kitgum district on Friday.

He said the army pursued them, killing three and recovering the sheep.

Kakurungu appealed to local leaders to cooperate with the UPDF and report suspected warriors.
