Tomoko Yamamoto, the wife of former president Godfrey Lukongwa Binaisa, arrived in Uganda on Wednesday night for her wedding slated for December 16.

She came aboard a British Airways flight with Binaisa, 84. Tomoko, 58, is a pharmacist living in Columbus, Ohio.

The couple was wed via satellite in August, during a mass ceremony conducted by the Rev. Sun Myung Moon of the Unification Church.

President Yoweri Museveni is expected to attend the wedding at Speke Resort Munyonyo. Sources said State House was handling some of the invites.

On arrival at their home in Muyenga, a Kampala suburb, the lovebirds were received by Binaisa’s immediate family and friends including Kampala mayor Ssebaana Kizito.

Holding tightly onto Binaisa’s hand, the bride was taken around the storeyed house. The couple sat together and occasionally whispered to each other.

“We shall have good connections between our communities. I hope she is going to be useful to our community,” said Binaisa, who lost his first wife, Majorie in 2003.

Andrew Kasirye, a city lawyer and Bonnie Katatumba, the honorary consul of Pakistan, attended the function organised by Binaisa’s daughter Nakalema.

Ssebaana said he first met Binaisa in Kenya a year before he became president.

He said the Japanese were known as polite people.
