— The government should fund agricultural research in the private sector, MPs have said. Chairing the committee on agriculture, Erute south MP John Odit said the country had an ineffective agricultural research system. He said the private sector was more interested in profits.

— The district Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has requested the Inspector General of Government (IGG) to carry out fresh investigations on Ojwina Division and Lira Municipal Council over fraud. In a report also copied to the auditor general recently, the PAC accused the division and the municipal council officials of hiking the price of land which was bought for the construction of a hospital.

— Fort Portal Grade One magistrate Jamson Karemani has committed a man to the High Court on charges of rape. Julius Rwebonera, alias Guard, 24, of Kyakarafa village, Kahunge sub-county, Kamwenge district, is suspected to have forcefully had sex with Beatrice Kyalikunda. Rwebonera will be tried in the next criminal session.
