KAMPALA City Council (KCC) boxing team came second with four gold medals and four bronze in the Inter-Cities boxing championship in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania Friday.

Golden punches from bantamweight Attanus Mugerwa, light welter Oscar Binka, light heavy Asuman Katende and heavyweight Tonny Ssekabira nearly handed victory to the eight-man team that also snatched four bronze medals.

But the scoring system favoured home side Dar-es-Salaam. The champions who managed only two gold and four silver were declared winners with 17 points, one ahead of KCC.

Kenya finished third with 10 points ahead of Rwanda with two.
For team coach Charles Lubulwa, victory was on Uganda’s side
“Going by the medal tally, we were the champions but only surprised to see Dar-es-Salaam declared victors on points,” said Lubuulwa.
Ssekabira produced his best knocking out Kenya’s Michael Okwisia.
