TEN years ago St. Josephs College Ombachi in Arua was among the schools producing the best students in the country.

Today, the school’s performance has drastically dropped. In a bid to avert the situation and restore glory to the 57-year-old Italian founded school, the Old Boys of the school came together and put their former school back to the original glory.

Patrick Ezaga the Makerere University Business School Public Relations Officer an OB of Ombachi said the school was going down the drains because of indiscipline and the lack of scholastic materials.

He said the declining standards motivated them to re-organise.
Ombachi College was a vocational school until 1962 when it turned into a fully-fledged secondary school but still maintained the teaching of skills to the students.

Later last year, the school’s Old Boys held a dinner dance and raised four million shillings of the sh25m target needed to restock the school library. The money was used to purchase books for the school,” Ezaga said.

This year the association’s annual dinner dance held at the Silver Springs Hotel raised close to sh3m.

The Italian ambassador Maurizo Teucci who officiated as chief guest promised Italy’s assistance.

Alex Onzima, the Maracha MP urged the old students to first display discipline themselves before talking about it.

The longest and former headmaster of Ombachi, Aberiga decried the declining standards of the school and culture of outrageous behaviour.

“I feel ashamed as a former headmaster. The parents are in league with students who are hooligans. We need to come up and save the situation,” he said.
He prayed that that St. Joseph’s College Ombachi once respected regains its glory.
