THE HIGH Court has dismissed the Masindi chairman’s petition against Archbishop Henry Luke Orombi’s choice of bishop for Masindi Kitara Diocese.

John Majara, Jacob Karubanga, and Earnest Kiiza wanted the court to overturn Orombi's nomination of the Rev. Canon Stanley Ntagari who they accused of abuse of office while provincial secretary of the Church of Uganda.

In a twist, however, Majara and two others filed another appeal, saying they were unhappy with the ruling.

Passing judgement, Justice Yorokamu Bamwine said Ntagari was properly nominated and elected as bishop for the diocese.

He said when the new diocese was created, Ntagari wrote to Nathan Kyamanywa, the Bishop of Bunyoro Kitara Diocese, to nominate clergymen to fill the post. He said this was constitutional.

Bamwine said Solomon Tunura, Geofrey Tibenda, Hannington Maiteki and Ntagari’s names were forwarded. Bamwine said the elections that followed were fair.

Bamwine said, “I find that the reliefs sought against the plaintiff are not available to them. I find no merit in the suit and dismiss the suit with costs to the defendant.”
