The Uganda Taxi Operators and Drivers’ Association (UTODA) will start fining passengers who damage safety belts in taxis.
UTODA national chairman John Ndyomugenyi was addressing over 200 drivers who attended a road safety course at Uganda Museum in Kitante, a Kampala suburb. The course was funded by the Uganda Red Cross Society.

Defiler pleads

A DEFILER asked court to free him so that he marries the victim.
Godfrey Ssembusi, 20, who has been sentenced to six years in jail, committed the offence in August 2003. Prosecution told the High Court in Masaka that the victim, aged 15, was running away from her father when Ssembusi defiled her on the way.
