FIFA Player of the year award
UTV viewers will today have a chance to view the FIFA Centennial World Players gala.
The glamourous event will be telecast live at 10pm, according to UTV’s Patrick Luwandaga.
The ceremony is at FIFA headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland.
Three strikers are vying for the coveted individual crown in 2004. In the past, players such as Zidane, Kahn and company have been recognised for their inspirational creative skills or defensive strength, but the shortlist on this occasion exclusively comprises goal-getters. Thierry Henry, Ronaldinho and Andriy Shevchenko have all been on sparkling form in qualifying for the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany.
Henry also helped the Gunners win the Premiership title unbeaten last season.
Other awards include the FIFA presidential award, Women’s world player of the year and fair play award.
