KENYA will be fighting that knockout mania against Ethiopia when the two countries clash in the CECAFA Al Amoudi Senior Challenge Cup first semi final here tomorrow.

The team, whose first goal keeper Francis Onyiso, is still admitted after getting an injury in the match against Uganda, will rely on stand in Victor Onyango against the Ethiopians who employ a very fast game.

Kenya has met Ethiopia twice in the knockout stages, and they would not like to remember the sad memories of their last encounter.

Kenya beat Ethiopia 2-1 to the third place in 1995 but Ethiopia paid back in 2001 in Rwanda with a similar result to lift their second ever title.

Ethiopia's first win was in 1987 when they beat Zimbabwe on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

In the other semifinal, memories of 1990 will be evoked when the two countries Sudan and Zanzibar clashed in Uganda. After a full time stalemate, Sudan's Fath Ibrahim broke down the islanders with an extra time goal for a place in the final. They lost to Uganda in the final.

Sudan has appeared in the semi-finals four times and has been successful only once, like their opponents Zanzibar.

Sabiiti Muwanga adds that the Cranes Working Committee (CWC) has distanced itself from the responsibility of paying allowances for the Cranes who returned Sunday from Ethiopia.

Uganda, also defending champions, were bundled out of the tournament at group stages.

Team manager Asuman Lubowa said the team was not given any money for the tournament but FUFA boss Dennis Obua referred them to CWC.

But CWC chairman Kennedy Ssebalu said that CECAFA was not part of their mandate.

“CECAFA is routine which FUFA must always budget for. Our mandate, which is even complimentary, was to assist in the CAN/ World Cup campaign”, Ssebalu said.

Ssebalu said their committee did not replace FUFA.
