The government is working out possibilities of connecting electricity to Karamoja, President Yoweri Museveni has said.

He also said the Sironko-Moroto and Corner Kilak-Kotido roads would be tarmacked next year.

Museveni on Tuesday met MPs from the Karamoja districts of Kotido, Nakapiripirit and Moroto at State House, Nakasero.

The defence minister, Amama Mbabazi and Army Commander Lt. Gen. Aronda Nyakairima attended.
A statement from State House yesterday said the President and the legislators discussed issues hinging on the disarmament process taking place in the sub-region.

Museveni reportedly emphasised the need for concerted efforts in the exercise to ensure peace and development in Karamoja.

He said a feasibility study was being carried out on the electrification of the area and the programme would likely take off next year.

Upe county MP Micah Lolem yesterday said they asked the president to re-introduce incentives for guns to be surrendered voluntarily. The incentives include iron sheets.
