The UPDF have deployed to beef up the police and local defence Unit personnel in Masindi following reports of rampant thefts in the district.

The resident district commissioner, Hassan Galiwango, said security officials recovered military equipment in a lodge in Kigumba township and Kyatiri village in Pakanyi sub-county.

The equipment included an assault rifle and 10 bombs.

He told the district council on Wednesday that five suspects were being questioned in connection with the arms.

“The wanainchi are ready to die with a wrong person but we have also introduced joint patrols,” Galiwango, who is also the district security committee chairman, said.

He attacked politicians who interfere in other people’s work.

“Stop concocting stories and let no councillor do my job because I do not impose myself on anybody,” he said.

Galiwango said the National Resistance Movement would accept LRA chief Joseph Kony to join it if he wished.

The district chairman, John Majara, called for teamwork among all councillors and technical staff.
