THE Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Katumba Wamala, has decried the high crime rate in Mukono district.

“I am not so sure why Mukono and Kampala lead in crime. I am perturbed to see that my district was the second in crime countrywide,” he said. Katumba resides in Nabuti village, Mukono town council.

Katumba said on Saturday at St. Phillip’s church, Mukono, that the police was having difficulties fighting nudity and pornography because of lack of public support.

Mukono Diocese Bishop Paul Luzinda led the service.
He prayed for peace and castigated the society for glorifying immoral values.

“We have the will to halt nudity and homosexuals, but we are let down by the same society which is always defending the immoral values. In 2005, we are intensifying our struggle to halt them,” he said.

Katumba urged the youth to manifest behaviour. He said the masses should work with the Police in fighting crimes like domestic violence and torture of children.

“The Police works with the masses to ensure peace. It is your cooperation that we can prevent crime,” he said.

He criticised people who drink and drive, especially at night.
