Why Makerere and not Kiswa?

SIR— It is quite dismaying to see that Kampala City Council cares more about the safety of university students than that of the pupils who are more vulnerable to traffic accidents.

SIR— It is quite dismaying to see that Kampala City Council cares more about the safety of university students than that of the pupils who are more vulnerable to traffic accidents.

I am saying this because when the Makerere University students recently rioted over their fellow student who was killed by a motorist on Sir Apollo Kaggwa Road near Nakulabye, KCC quickly rushed to construct humps at the spot. The work is currently in progress at high speed so as to protect the students from further motor accidents.

KCC also constructed two huge humps to protect Makerere University Business School students at Nakawa campus! Yet for over three years now, the parents of St Kizito Primary School, Bugolobi, have applied to KCC to construct either two humps like those at Nakawa campus or a fly-over along the Port Bell Road near Silver Springs Hotel to safeguard our children, who need more protection from the reckless and inconsiderate motorists on that road. But, KCC has hitherto ignored this request by the parents.

Will these also have to riot or stage a demo in Kampala for KCC to heed the long-standing request?
