BANK of Uganda (BOU) has maintained that the old sh10,000 currency notes will cease to be legal tender today.

Patrick Byabakama, BOU’s director of currency reaffirmed that the sh10,000 bank notes, which were printed in 1995 or 1998 are being recalled from circulation.

The notes have no foil stripe and bear the signature of the late Governor, Charles N. Kikonyogo.

“The exercise has been successful and we have recalled about 99% of what we expected. The deadline remains,” Byabakama said.

However, he said BOU would continue collecting the notes at its headquarters and other branches till June 30, 2005.
