FORMER presidential candidate Muhammed Mayanja Kibirige has criticised the Movement task force that was formed to ensure the success of Movementists in the ongoing local council elections, reports Mariam Nakisekka. “It is a waste having leaders who cannot deliver at the expense of others simply because they belong to the Movement,” Kibirige told The New Vision on Sunday. “The Government is wasting tax-payers’ money to promote Movementists without considering their ability and effectiveness,” he said. Kibirige appealed to the public not to be swayed by the Movement task force but vote for people who can perform and deliver if the country is to develop. Kibirige criticised the resolution by the Movement National Executive Committee (NEC) to stop the discussion on parties, which he said would suffocate the people’s freedom of expression. “Outwardly, it is a discussion on parties but basically it is whether Museveni is standing in 2006 or not, the issue of parties has been discussed for years. Bidandi and Kategaya are only repeating the same,” he said. “NEC is joking and intimidating because it is not the legislature, it is only assuming the duty of the Parliament,” Kibirige said. Kibirige said that there is no point in waiting for the end of the constitutional review, saying it is useless as the Movement only considers it’s selfish interests. “The constitutional review has a Movement representative as Zam Zam Nagujja yet other parties are not represented. The ground is not level. It is undemocratic,” he said. Ends
