Kawuma ruled out

By Vision reporter UGANDA chess Federation (UCF) has ruled National junior champion Stephen Kawuma out this year’s edition scheduled for January 11-13 at Makerere College.UCF chairman Daniel Nsibambi yesterday said that the three-time champion is not eligible to play in the competition for 20-year olds and below.“According to FIDE rules, Kawuma does not qualify. Rules allow only players who turned 20 this year,” Nsibambi said. “Kawuma turned 20 on January 23 last year.”The tournament starts 12 days before Kawuma’s 21st birthday.“If we made mistakes and people above 20 years competed in junior championship we should not repeat our past mistakes,” UCF secretary Vianney Luggya explained.
