By Allan TuryagumaThe Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Katumba Wamala has said the force’s fire department is ill- equipped and cannot respond appropriately to inferno outbreaks.“There is fire fighting incapability in the police, the equipment which we have does not match with the level of technological development in the country,” he said.Katumba was on Wednesday talking to journalists about the fire that destroyed property worth billions of shillings in Mbarara central market. “It is not Mbarara alone which has a shortage of fire fighting equipment, it is a general problem but we are addressing it,” he said.Mbarara fire brigade which battled the inferno that broke out in the market on Tuesday at about 9:30pm had to seek for reinforcement from their colleagues in Masaka after the fire became too much for them to handle.Katumba, who was in the western region when the incident happened was able to inspect the inferno scene.Ends
