By Grace Matsiko in Fort PortalTHE UPDF has captured a top aide to Sheik Jamil Mukulu, the overall commander of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), The New Vision has learnt. In December, America listed the ADF as a terrorist organisation.Abdu Kasekende was captured in Kigoyera along River Muzizi in Kyenjojo district on January 4. He was shot in the legs and arms before his capture. The UPDF also killed two rebels and seized 120 cartons of drugs, mainly Ampicillin and Benzacin, in the operation, intelligence sources said yesterday.Kasekende, who joined ADF in 1996 and participated in the deadly attack on Mpondwe customs post in the same year, is now admitted to Buhinga Hospital in Fort Portal. The bodies of his two juniors, among them a woman, are in the hospital mortuary. The source said, the government has "impeachable evidence" that top ADF leadership namely Sheikh Mukulu, Abdalla Yusuf 'Kabanda (Chief of Combat Operations)', Dr. Shariff Benjamin Kisokeranio (social welfare) and late rebel commander, Henry Matovu Birungi ‘Kabanda’ alias Cobra, were trained in Afghanistan by Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda network. The ADF is said to have received large sums of money from Bin Laden for training of bombers who terrorised Kampala and for the purchase of materials for manufacture of home-made explosives.“Kasekende is among the top aides of Mukulu. He had on him documents written in Arabic which the translators say contain vital information on the ADF operations,” a military source said.He said the UPDF also recovered three guns and at least 100 bullets. Three rebels escaped with bullet wounds, the source said. There were no casualties on the UPDF side, the source added.Ends
