Media boss raps FM stations

A New Vision board member Rev. Yeko Ongora Atwai has criticised the mushrooming local FM stations in Lira for pirating stories from the newspapers.

Yeko Ongora Atwai has criticised the mushrooming local FM stations in Lira for pirating stories from the newspapers.Speaking at the end of year Rupiny staff party at Lira Hotel, Atwai said,“Where would you get the news if you didn’t have the newspapers? This is violation of the media law. We can easily sue them for pirating stories from the newpapers and masquerading as the sources,” Atwai said.He called upon journalists to be credible, knowledgeable and objective in their reporting so as to avoid getting the paper sued.The outgoing editor of Rupiny, Chris Banya, appealed to the district leaders to protect the journalists when they are executing their duties.He said journalists in northern Uganda have been intimidated and sometimes locked in jail for exposing corruption in many government offices.He called upon the district security personnel to protect the journalists during the course of their work.Lira CAO Daniel Ochieng appealed to the journalists to help articulate the district’s needs so that the government can respond to them.
