By Allan TuryagumaPresident Yoweri Museveni on Sunday cautioned Bushenyi district leaders against mixing religion with politics. He said it was a dangerous action that could lead to the decline of the Movement.Museveni invited over 20 Bushenyi district leaders at his Rwakitura country home to discuss problems facing the movement in the area and to forge a way forward.those invited were the district incumbent chairman, Yowasi Makaru, the Resident District Commissioner, Bamusede Bwambale, and the LC5 candidates vying for the district chairmanship, Nyine Bitahwa and Longino Ndyanabo.Bwambale told the New Vision yesterday that Museveni was shocked to hear that some people were using religion as a basis for determining district leaders.“The president said the movement government does not pursue politics based on religion as a yardstick for judging leaders,” Bwambale said.“Museveni said leaders should be judged according to their individual merit and not their religion, tribe and other things which divide people,” he added. The district Members of Parliament reportedly held a meeting in Kampala last year in which they agreed to support Ndyanabo, a catholic, to balance religions in the district leadership because the outgoing chairman is a Protestant.“many things were raised at the meeting which could not be deliberated upon immediately. the President promised to meet us again on Tuesday (today) for resolutions,” a source said.Ends
