By Kenneth OtimTHE Soroti Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Edward Masiga, has told the LC5 contestants not to involve President Yoweri Museveni in their campaigns.Masiga said, “it has come to our notice that some candidates are involving the President in the campaigns, but I advise you to leave his name out of the campaigns and you tussle it out alone.”“The president is interested in the campaigns but he is not involved,” Masiga said while addressing the public at Soroti sports ground during the NRM 16th anniversary last Saturday. He advised those with grudges to sort the matter in the courts of law.Masiga told the gathering to work hard and chase poverty out of their homes. “Let us stop lamenting and forget about poverty. People say that the NRM government has brought poverty and forget that poverty was there before 1986.” “Words should be put in action. Get a hoe and plant potatoes, and you will overcome poverty,” he added. He urged the people to protect the security and peace brought by the Movement government.“Peace has been given to us by government which has a professional army and the police, the battle remains only to fight poverty. Otherwise, you should guard this peace jealously to attract investors in Soroti and Teso region,” he said.Masiga said the achievements by the government were a result of peace. “My office is open to everyone. Those interested in rumour-mongering are also welcome but I would judge and weigh it in the legitimate interest of the district,” he said.
