By Vision ReporterBUKEDDE, the Luganda leading daily has launched a fundraising drive to save the life of a five-year-old boy who has no anus.Samuel Kakaba, uses his intestine to eject faeces through his abdomen.Bukedde first broke Kakaba’s story on March 5, 2001. His father Lecoboam Ssekijoba, a peasant farmer from Jjanda village, Zirobwe in Luweero said he had given up hope after Kampala hospitals hiked the fees for his son’s operation.During earlier visits to Mulago Hospital, the doctors helped Kakaba by looping one of the intestines through a hole drilled in his abdomen.“My son smells all the time. At times the intestine swarms with houseflies. If he does not receive immediate help, he will putrefy and die,” Ssekijoba said.A special bank account number 217638 has been opened up at Nile Bank, Kampala road to raise the sh1,500,000 needed for Kakaba’s operation.Mr. Geoffrey Kulubya, the Bukedde deputy editor, who is coordinating the fundraising drive said Bukedde has been at the forefront in crusading for disadvantaged children and marginalised groups.
