IT was typical winter weather but she was feeling just fine. Dressed in a woollen black pair of trousers and matching blouse, Agnes Omega, who was the best PLE candidate in Kampala district, sounded jovial as she spoke from London where she is on holiday.

Dressed in a woollen black pair of trousers and matching blouse, Agnes Omega, who was the best PLE candidate in Kampala district, sounded jovial as she spoke from London where she is on holiday.“I feel very good. The weather is not that bad,” she said, shortly after describing her dressing.“I was hoping to be the first in my school and not the entire district. Whether or not I was the best in the country, I don’t know. But I am happy,” said the former Green Hill Academy pupil.Though this is her best academic achievement so far, the victorious girl, who was described as “disciplined and hardworking”, has always been among the best performers in the school. Whenever she failed to come top of the class, it was disaster to her.“Agnes was always steadfast in class,” says Mr. Gaudy Tindamanyire, her father.“She has been consistent, thorough in her work and eager to learn on her own,” Tindamanyire, a banking officer at the Uganda Commercial Bank Ltd, said.At Green Hill, Omega was the academic prefect, played netball and was regular in the swimming pool, but she always found time to discuss academic matters with her teachers and classmates, particularly in mathematics, her favourite subject.The 12-year-old girl is now eager to join Mt. St. Mary’s Namagunga where she intends to concentrate on subjects that will enable her realise her dream of becoming an engineer. Ends
