By Moses NampalaTHE High court has ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to re-instate the nomination of former Mayuge district chairperson, Tigawalana Bakali alias Ikoba, earlier disqualified over alleged lack of minimum academic papers. The Jinja Resident Judge, Justice Joram Bamwine, awarded the petitioner two thirds of the cost of the suit. He revoked the earlier decision by the first respondent (EC) in which Sarah Namumbya, the lone contender for the LC5 seat, was declared elected unopposed. The EC was ordered to fix the polling date for Mayuge district Local council elections for the seat of chairperson.“The appellant brought ample evidence to prove that he had the necessary academic qualifications. Court has found that he qualifies for nomination to contest for the seat of Mayuge district chairperson,” Justice Bamwine ruled.Excitement overwhelmed supporters of the petitioner who had jammed the court hall when Justice Joram Bamwine wished the two parties a good election exercise.Ululations of victory were made by supporters of the petitioner to the chagrin of Sarah Namumbya and her supporters. The visibly cheerful advocate for the petitioner, Mr. Robert Okalang, told The New Vision that the victory of his client was a tangible landmark in his career as a legal practitioner. He said costs awarded to his client from the respondents might add up to sh60m.Ends
