The Africa Cup of Nations final between Cameroon and Senegal in Mali produced its fair share of problems in Uganda, which is miles away. This was on Sunday February 10. In Luteete, eight miles on Gayaza Road, two men, Abasi Musisi and Steven Sseguya, pounded each other over a bet, which prompted other people to join in and fight. Before kick-off, the men, both boda-boda operatives, staked sh10,000 on Senegal and Cameroon respectively. However, at the end of 120 minutes, no team had emerged the victor. This is when Sseguya, a well known village bully, suggested that instead of staking on which team won after the penalty shoot out, they were to guess on which side the goal keeper dived when the spot-kick was taken, winning sh1000 for a right guess. The rules were that if one chose one side, the other automatically settled for the other. Kick after kick was taken with the men making a quick buck, to the envy of others who wanted to join in.What led to the fight was not surprising. When Cisse the Senegalese player took the last spot kick, Alioum Boukar, the Cameroon Keeper, saved it rooted to the spot. So, he did not move in any direction. The bully insisted the keeper had moved in ‘his’ direction so was justified in winning the money. His colleague was equally adamant and refused to hand over the money. A fist fight broke out and they were joined by vanquished Senegalese, fans who pounded jubilant Cameroon fans with anything they could lay their hands on. In the ensuing commotion, a lot of property was lost, including the money in question.ends
