THE UPDF 3rd Division commanding officer, Col. Sula Semakula, has assured the people of Katakwi district of security during the on-going forceful recovery of illegal guns from the Karimojong.

Sula Semakula, has assured the people of Katakwi district of security during the on-going forceful recovery of illegal guns from the Karimojong.He said more troops will be deployed in the districts neighbouring Karamoja.Semakula was addressing a security meeting in which he briefed the Katakwi leadership on the progress of the disarmament programme.He said the LDUs would be beefed up in some districts while more would be recruited in the sub-counties along the borders.He said the forceful disarmament programme was launched on February 23, after the grace period given by President Yoweri Museveni expired. He said two more UPDF units were to be deployed at Amaseniko in Kapelebyong county and at Chos valley near Ngariam, to guard against possible infiltration by armed Karimojong into Teso region.The Resident district commissioner, Mr. Chemaswet Ndiwa, who attended the meeting, told the new vision that Semakula assured the Iteso of security along their border with Karamoja.Semakula also said the recent re-deployment of LDUs from Teso to Karamoja was to help recover cattle stolen during the raids by the Karimojong. Some Katakwi members of Parliament including Isaiah Imumet (Usuk), Ben Etonu (Amuria), and John Malinga (Kapelbyong) attended the meeting. Security officials from Moroto were also present.
