By Douglas Mazune UGANDA Tennis Association’s (UTA) long serving general secretary Gideon Karyoko will, surprisingly, not seek re-election at the UTA general assembly this Saturday.Karyoko, who has been under persistent attack throughout his previous term, declined to reveal why he would not contest.“I will give my reasons for not standing at the assembly,” Karyoko told The New Vision yesterday.Karyoko, however, said he would fight for UTA to repossess Lugogo courts.“I will offer my services where required and I will not rest until UTA repossess Lugogo courts. If it is necessary for us to go to courts of law, we shall go because those courts are the source of conflicts that want to kill the game,” Karyoko charged.Karyoko, who has been accused of mismanagement of funds, said he would clear the air at the assembly.Incumbent chairman Peter Ntaki, still the darling of influential Kampala, Lugogo and Jinja tennis clubs, said he would seek re-election.“If people still want me, I will serve. If you look at the constitution, it is the secretary who has most of the powers, so it is important that we get a team with which we can work together,” Ntaki said. Lugogo tennis club yesterday submitted a list of 10 delegates to Karyoko dispelling talks that Lugogo would shun the assembly.ends
