THE parliamentary committee probing elections mismanagement is set to hold public hearing at the Kampala City Council Chamber between March 14 and 16, 2002.John Kakande reports that members of the public who wish to testify before the polls probe committee should register at the City Hall reception between today and Wednesday James Ssegane, the deputy KCC Town Clerk, has announced.The 15-member committee is this morning scheduled to interview the Electoral Commission chief, Hajji Aziz Kasujja, at the Parliamentary Building.The committee headed by Augustine Sebutulo Nshimye (Mityana South) will also interview other commission officials and the former chairman of the interim electoral commission, Steven Akabway, before shifting to the Kampala City Hall on March 14.“The committee, which will sit at Kampala City Council Chambers, will inquire into the misconduct, mismanagement, violence and rigging that characterised the recently concluded presidential, parliamentary and local council elections,” Ssegane said in a statement at the weekend.He said only those registered in advance would be allowed to testify at the City Hall. “The public is therefore encouraged to utilise this chance to help build democracy in the country,” Ssegane added. People who wish to testify should contact the commission on 347440, 077-427000 and 077-445640 for appointments, said the statement.Ends
