By John Nzinjahin KanunguPEOPLE in the southwestern Uganda district of Kanungu have been warned against supporting multipartyists said to be masquerading as Movement reformists.“Those so-called Movement Reformists are multipartyists. That is why Col. Kizza Besigye got overwhelming support in the north of the country,” Beatrice Lagada, the director of mass mobilisation at the Movement Secretariat, said at the weekend. She was officiating at celebrations to mark the International Women’s Day at Kanungu district headquarters. She told a big gathering that in the northern part of the country, there was no ideology of Movement reformists but multipartyism.“The Langis and the Acholis gave Col. Kizza Besigye votes in the last year’s presidential elections because they are multipartyists like Col. Besigye,” Lagada said.Lagada called upon Kanungu residents and the rest of the country to isolate and abandon the reformists, saying their reform agenda was likely to plunge the country into war.She also appealed to the people in Kanungu to stop what she called a backward culture which oppressed women. The RDC Kanungu, Kamara Bayeye, attacked men who defile children, saying he was giving them the last warning. Defilement is rampant in the district. The district chairperson, Josephine Kasya, called for love and harmony in families, saying peace and stability in the country begins with the family. The MP Kinkizi, the Rev. Herbert Kabushenga, urged wives and husbands to emphasise family planning. The district woman MP, Jacqueline Kyatuhairwe, hailed President Yoweri Museveni for his strong support of women emancipation.
