JAMES Musinguzi, the former Kinkizi West parliamentary candidate conceded defeat after the votes were counted and accepted that the elections were free and fair, Dr. Joseph Byamugisha told court yesterday.

By Juliet NankingaJAMES Musinguzi, the former Kinkizi West parliamentary candidate conceded defeat after the votes were counted and accepted that the elections were free and fair, Dr. Joseph Byamugisha told court yesterday.Byamugisha, a lead counsel for defence minister Amama Mbabazi told the court yesterday that Musinguzi’s acceptance of defeat was evidenced in his letter to the Kanungu district returning officer.Justice Egonda Ntende of the High Court is to rule on the petition after all parties have made their submissions. The case entered its third day of submissions by the respondents.Musinguzi petitioned the court for orders that the elections be nullified because they were held against the law. He claimed the elections were rigged in favour of Mbabazi through of the Presidential protection Unit (PPU) and the UPDF. He said the forces intimidated voters in the area.Byamugisha told the court that allegations that Mbabazi bribed voters were baseless. “The petitioner accepted that his agents caused confusion in Kinkizi and that Mbabazi’s agents were not involved. This is contained in his report to the district returning officer,” Byamugisha said.Ends
