THE army in Kasese has refuted reports that a new Rwenzururu rebel group has been established there to fight the government.

If such a rebel group comes up again, we shall defeat it,” the Rwenzori Mountains alpine Brigade Commander, Lt. Col. Mawa Adula Muhindo, said on Monday.He was addressing a district meeting on peace and reconciliation that was attended by both the outgoing and incoming LC3 chairpersons, religious, opinion leaders, security personnel, two deputy Resident District Commissioners and the press.Mawa was reacting to media reports which claimed that an assistant RDC was recruiting a rebel group under the guise of an association.The Kasese woman member of Parliament, Loyce Biira Bwambale is also reported to have appealed to the army to crash the alleged new rebellion. Mawa and Bukonzo East MP Kithende Kalibogha organised the meeting. The allegations were reportedly made by Kithende at Munkunyu sub-county headquarters at celebrations to mark the International Women’s day.
