Soldiers to be tried

The UPDF 3rd Division Commander, Col. Sula Semakula, has said the two soldiers arrested over the murder of the Irish Catholic priest are to appear before a field court martial.

Sula Semakula, has said the two soldiers arrested over the murder of the Irish Catholic priest are to appear before a field court martial.He said the court was constituted at the beginning of the disarmament operations in Karamoja. “If they are found guilty, the minimum sentence is death by firing squad,” Semakula said yesterday.He said the court was expected to sit today in Kotido to try the two suspects, Cpl. James Omedio and Pte. Abdallah Mohammad, who were arrested at the Kalosarich UPDF detachment over the murder of the Rev. Fr. Michael Otoole Delan, his driver Patrick Longoli and cook Fidele Longole.They were gunned down at 8:00pm on Wednesday night as they returned from Moroto where Declan had travelled to renew his driving permit.He had been the parish priest in-charge of Panyangara in Jie County, Kotido district.
