‘Put women secretariats at districts’

THE parliamentary social service committee has asked the Government to establish women secretariats at district headquarters to strengthen the mobilisation of women at the grass roots.

By Milton OlupotTHE parliamentary social service committee has asked the Government to establish women secretariats at district headquarters to strengthen the mobilisation of women at the grass roots.Members of the committee chaired by Dorothy Hyuha (Tororo Woman) asked the gender and culture state minister, Sam Bitangaro, to table the issue before cabinet.Bitangaro raised concern about limited funds in to the ministry, but promised to take it up. Bitangaro conceded that in future, there would be need for such secretariats at sub-county level.The team appeared before the committee to discuss the National Women Council Statute Amendments Bill.
