By Geoffrey KamaliA GROUP of Tabliq Muslims stormed the Clock Tower grounds in Kampala yesterday and fenced off over 10 acres of land to stop Kampala City Council (KCC) from allocating the area to street vendors. The group, comprising of mainly youths carrying building tools, was led by the Amir of Nakasero mosque, Sheikh Sulaiman Kakeeto, who supervised the operation from his white pick-up truck and provided the youth with mineral water. The group erected a barbed-wire fence around the grounds, saying they were going to develop it.“We are not fighters, so we are not here to fight anybody. However, if someone wants to provoke us, we’ll take them on,” Kakeeto warned. He said they decided to fence off the land following reports that KCC had earmarked the grounds for allocation to vendors. “There are many vacant plots in the city. Let KCC take them there,” Kakeeto said.ends
