Armed thugs on Wednesday ambushed travellers from Kibaale and robbed them of cash estimated at sh10m and other personal property.

The Police and witnesses said the robbery, which involved four armed men, three of whom carried sub-machine guns, took place two kilometres from Nkusi River, on the Kibaale-Mubende Road at around 8:30am. The Mid Western Regional Internal Security Officer, Constantine Kiiza, and Kakumiro Police in Kibaale confirmed the incident. They said the two mini buses were robbed of over sh10m. One of the victims, Amos Tumwesigire, told The New Vision that the robbers asked the passengers why the Banyoro and Bakiga were fighting. They reportedly demanded why they carried large sums of money. “Why do you want to kill each other. Should we kill you before you do it? One of the victims quoted the armed men as saying. The thugs spoke Swahili, Runyoro and Luganda.Police sources said patrols would be introduced on the Kibaale-Mubende highway. They said the thugs were taking advantage of the tension between the Banyoro and Bakiga.
