By Hannington MbabaziA TOTAL of sh3.5b has been released by the Government to implement the Function Adult Literacy (FAL) programme throughout the country. It will be implemented through the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development. This was revealed by an official in the ministry, Plaxeda Nsekaki, while closing a five-day trainer’s workshop on FAL at Rushoroza hall in Kabale district on Friday. She said the money will be utilised in the period between 2002-2003 with complement from Poverty Alleviation Fund.Nsekaki called upon the district and sub-county leadership to join hands with the ministry to support the FAL programme so as to reduce illiteracy in the country. She said the idea is to make FAL programme self-reliant with local support. “This is necessary since UNICEF and other organisations which have been giving support may pull out any time,” she said.Speaking at the same function, the deputy CAO Kabale, Ikiror Iporotum, told participants that the three enemies of society are ignorance, disease and poverty. He called upon the participants to work out new strategies of educating adults.Ends
