By Joe Erem Oyie LIRA LC5 chairman Dr. Charles Odwee Arago has asked the Resident District Commissioner’s (RDC) office to substantiate claims of rebel recruitment in the district. Recent press reports quoted the deputy RDC, Johnson Butamanya, as saying that people from Otuke, Dokolo and Kyoga counties in Lira were being recruited into rebel activity. Odwee said the allegation had created panic in the district. He said the RDC’s office should clarify on the whereabouts and names of the 500 recruits who were reportedly intercepted by the UPDF in Muntu, Kyoga county. Odwee recalled that similar allegations led to the death of Brig. Smith Opon Acak in July 1999. He said political opponents are at times sacrificed as anti-government. The RDC, Charles Engwau, said he will give substantial details on the state of security in the district at the next council meeting. Ends
