Bushenyi district officials have appealed to the government for the immediate provision of relief for the people of Kyanjura village in Buhweju county, who lost relatives and property in the recent landslides.

By Allan Turyaguma Bushenyi district officials have appealed to the government for the immediate provision of relief for the people of Kyanjura village in Buhweju county, who lost relatives and property in the recent landslides.Nine people from three families perished and property worth millions of shillings was destroyed in last Tuesday in landslides that were triggered off by a day-long downpour.The Resident District Commissioner, Bamusede Bwambale and Buhweju county Member of Parliament Deus Bikwasizehi wrote to the ministry of disaster preparedness and refugees, asking for immediate attention to Kyanjura.“What happened in Buhweju was a total disaster. If these people don’t receive aid soon, we fear that more lives could be lost,” Bwambale said.The deputy RDC, Charles Ssendegeya, told the New Vision on Friday that he attended the burial of the victims and left the bereaved families with beans and posho. “We gave them beans and posho but its not enough,” he said.
