A man who stabbed his wife to death was last Wednesday sentenced to death by the High Court which sat in Lira, reports Pelgrine Otonga.

A man who stabbed his wife to death was last Wednesday sentenced to death by the High Court which sat in Lira, reports Pelgrine Otonga.Justice Augustine Kania found William Okwang guilty of murdering Caroline Akia, a mother of eight children at Alo Pii village, Amach sub-county in Lira district on November 3.Kania said Okwanga had to suffer death after a two-hour judgement.In his defence, through counsels Morris Ogang and Jude Atiang, Okwanga said he committed the crime without malice aforethought.He said a man, whom he accused of impregnating his wife, the late Akia, provoked him.He said he had no intention of killing his wife but had wanted to kill the stranger.Meanwhile, the same court also jailed two men for defilement.Opio Robert Ameny, 31, of Adebo B village in Agwata sub-county, Dokolo county in Lira was sentenced to 11 years and 10 months in prison after he was found guilty of defiling a six-year-old girl.James Odongo of Banya B parish in Kamdini in Apac district was sentenced to eight years for having unlawful sex with a girl below 18 years.State Prosecutor A. Serwadda, who prayed for deterrent sentences, said defilers were monsters who should be kept away from civilised society to deter others from committing similar crimes.Justice Kania acquitted a man accused of aggravated robbery after prosecution failed to prove that Logwel lopio participated in the crime. He said the witnesses contradicted themselves about the scene of the crime.Ends
