UPC Invites DP Chief

THE Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has invited Dr Paul Ssemogerere to address them on Saturday at a conference to mark 50 years of political party activities in Uganda.

By Geresom MusamaliTHE Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has invited Dr Paul Ssemogerere to address them on Saturday at a conference to mark 50 years of political party activities in Uganda.Ssemogerere is to talk about the role of the Democratic Party (DP) in the struggle for independence, according to a draft programme The New Vision has seen.Others guest speakers include former presidential candidates Chapaa Karuhanga and Kibirige Mayanja, MPs Nsubuga Nsambu (Makindye West), Aggrey Awori (Samia Bugwe North), Cecilia Ogwal (Lira Municipality) and Professor Dan Nabudere.UPC sources on Thursday said the conference would take place at the International Conference Centre.The weekend of political party festivities coincides with the 22nd anniversary of Obote’s return to Uganda from exile in Tanzania on May 27, 1980.Obote landed at Mbarara airstrip and went straight to Bushenyi. During the UPC days, the day was marked by a pilgrimage to Bushenyi. This year, the day will also be marked.Ends
