By Hillary KiiryaThe Electoral Commission yesterday conceded to court that there were irregularities in Nakasongola Constituency parliamentary elections. The Electoral Commission lawyer, Okello Oryem, said this at the hearing of the petition in which a Kampala lawyer, Peter Nyombi, is seeking the nullification of state for security minister Muruli Mukasa.“There were irregularities, but they were not widespread. Even bribery, intimidation and obstruction were not also widespread and so could not affect the overall results of the electoral process,” Okello said. However, Nyombi’s lawyer, McDusman Kabega, said bribery, intimidation and obstruction were illegal and can lead to nullification of the poll.Kabega said a judicial officer, Mary Babirye, lied the to court that Muruli’s witnesses had sworn affidavits. Babirye accepted that she lied.Ends
