By Elvis BasuddeThere was dancing all way through last Wednesday at Kampala Regency Hotel at Bakuli on Namirembe Road when the Splash band was launching the Mid-week bash. The band, which is based at African Village on Buganda Road, had won a contract to perform at Regency Hotel every Wednesday in the hotel’s new promotional innovation, ‘the Mid-Week bash.’“As a gesture of appreciation for the band’s good performance, Kampala Regency management has chosen it to be our mid-week entertainer,” said the General Manager, Johnson Okili, as he launched the bash.In their live, vibrant maiden performance, which lasted about five hours, the band treated its fans to a mixed grill of music and dance in jazz, country western, Lingala, Zulu, soft Pop, reggae and ragga, as well as traditional tunes. Each time the band got on stage to perform, it was received with warm applause before the audience hushed up in mesmerised silence to see their beautiful and electrifying antics. Revellers included a delegation of Red Cross staff from Kenya and the city’s socialites.White guests were particularly impressed by the African traditional music and dance. A few of them took to the stage and imitated the local dances. The band also performed some of their popular original tunes and some copyrights of local and international musicians. They did Saida Kaloli’s Maria Salome and Samputu’s Mutuyambe so well that ecstatic revellers screamed for more. When it comes to dancing, the young dancing queens are no nonsense. Each of their sensuous stage antics was greeted enthusiastically and left everybody amazed.Catch the band and the new mid-week bash by visiting this new spot, Regency Hotel— located on the lower part of the great Namirembe Hill, on Wednesday between 7.00pm and 10.00pm. You will appreciate the good atmosphere. Ends
