A suspected smuggler, Godfrey Ngolobe nicknamed ‘Baby’, was shot dead by officers of the Police Special Revenue Service (SRPS) on Sunday in Museka village south of Busia district.

Another man, Fred Nasswa, who was travelling with Ngolobe in the same car was shot and seriously injured in the abdomen and chest. His relatives took him to a private hospital in Kenya.The 27-year-old Ngolobe allegedly drove through a snap revenue checkpoint in the convoy of vehicles carrying Supermatch brand of cigarettes smuggled from Kenya. The SRPS said it recovered cigarettes worth over sh10m from the boot of Ngolobe’s vehicle and other cars that were impounded.SRPS spokesman Lt. Barigye Ba-Hoku on Monday held a press conference in Busia town and explained the circumstances that led to the death of Ngolobe.He said Ngolobe had been one of the most wanted ‘economic terrorists’ whose death should serve as a warning.ends
