Police Marine Boat Capsizes In Kalangala

By Eddie SsejjobaFEAR gripped the marine police on a search for dead bodies of a boat accident in Kalangala, when a boat carrying the team capsized in the lake.All the eight men on board were rescued by fishermen on standby as strong waves continued to threaten movements on the lake.The incident forced the team to suspend the search. At least 49 bodies had by Saturday been retrieved from the lake out of about 70 people feared to have perished when a boat sunk on its way from Kasenyi to Kisaba in Kalangala district.The district CID officer, Abdullah Bagonza, said the police boat was blown away by strong waves near Nakibanga landing site on Bukasa island. The police officers made an alarm that attracted the fishermen.He said all the men had life-jackets except Mugisha alias George bush, working with the DISO’s office. He was also rescued.“The lake is still very stubborn and the winds are very strong, so we have decided to suspend the search until further notice,” Bagonza said. The survivors included the pilot, Constable Kiriga, Twesigye, Corporal Ogwang, Constables Safari, Okundu, Kyamwoogesi, Muswahiri, Owumo and Mugisha.Ends
